“I cannot live; I can’t breathe, unless you do this with me… Here we go, life’s waiting to begin.” – Angels & Airwaves
My husband and I just passed our third anniversary. The years have flown by, considering that there was a time in my late twenties when I wondered if I would ever find the man of my dreams. Now, after spending three amazing years married to him, I can’t imagine what life would be like without him. He is a great source of strength in my life. He continually exceeds my expectations of husband, friend and soon to be father.
That’s right, if you hadn’t already heard, we are expecting our first baby in November of 2010. Much to Josh’s chagrin we will be waiting to find out the gender of the baby until it is born; just another example of his respect and love for his wife.
Because of the impending addition to our family we decided that this year’s anniversary should be extra special, since it is the last year for awhile that we will have the money and time to do something out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, as we found in our planning, you can’t do anything “fun” when you are pregnant. At least not "out of the ordinary" fun. Our list of activities was quickly whittled down from bobsledding, theme parks, horseback riding, hot air ballooning, and water rafting to bike riding, shopping and light hiking.
It took at little extra effort but we were able to find a place that offered enough beauty and charm that we forgot all about what we couldn’t do and just enjoyed each other’s companionship. This place was a small town in Utah called Midway. It is a nestled in the Wasatch Mountains east of Salt Lake City, about 20 miles outside of Park City. It is a quiet and quaint location that provides earthly beauty with a Swiss touch.
Specifically we stayed at the Johnson Mill Bed & Breakfast which was named by Redbook Magazine as "One of America's Four Most Romantic Inns." We chose to stay in the River Bottoms room which overlooked a portion of the Provo River. It was amazing! At dusk we sat on our private balcony and watched deer graze in the meadow below. Then once the sun had set we went inside and watched bats, owls and other night creatures come to life right outside our windows.
The next morning after we walked around the lake, took pictures of the beautiful swans and other scenery, we were served breakfast on the veranda which consisted of quiche, coffee cake, fresh fruit and a variety of juices.
The B&B caretaker was so fun and bubbly that I felt I was hanging out with a long lost sister. She helped us feel right at home and after the wonderful breakfast she cooked made it hard not to want to make it a permanent stay. We learned on this getaway that as long as we are together it doesn’t matter what we are doing. The fun atmosphere, the great food, and the hospitality of the residents made it a place that we will return to again and again and not just to have the adventure that we missed out on this time around.
